Montana’s
Bighorn River
for Rainbow and Brown Trout
“We
have reached the time in the life of the planet, and humanity’s demands
upon it, when every fisherman will have to be a riverkeeper, a steward of
marine shallows, a watchman on the high seas.
We are beyond having to put back what we have taken out.
We must put back more than we take out.”
Thomas
McGuane, The Longest Silence –A Life in Fishing, 1999

The Bighorn River in Fort Smith, Montana
is one
of the top tailwater fisheries
in the United States.
Sunset on the
Bighorn
The Bighorn River is known for its tremendous resources of brown and
rainbow trout, many over 18 inches. This is due to the nutrients in
the water and catch and release policy
practiced on the river. There
are thousands of catchable fish per mile. The Bighorn River is
one of the few rivers where the fishing is excellent
year-round.
